We’re back with our picks of music and art events for the next month and May is absolutely poppin, read on to find out where we’ll be heading to over the next 4 weeks...

May 3rd 12:00 - 22:00 & May 4th 12:00 - 22:00 | 2nd Birthday Party @ Nottingham Street Food Club

To celebrate 2 years of excellent food, traders and customers, Notts Street Food is hosting a two day birthday party over the bank holiday weekend.

Head down for birthday specials from each of their traders, exclusive craft beer selections at, birthday drinks deals, competitions for free food and drinks and best of all, music from the Mimm Store DJ’s to get the atmosphere going from 1800 - 2200 on both evenings.

Trading over the weekend will be brought to you by Homeboys (Asian Soul Food), Smoqued (Mexican Street Food), Hunger: The Healthy Food Co (Healthy Street Food) and PORCO (Pork Specialists). A fantastic variation of cuisines to suit everyone's taste buds.

A perfect carry on from the Notts Street Food Party, BassLayerz invite you to their first event of the year with a massive line up.

If you’re a Drum & Bass / Jungle head, then you need to be at this event as the night is dedicated to the genres.

May 4th - May 11th 1200 - 1800 | Process of Ending @ Surface Gallery

Following a portrait submission depicting an MRI scan of her hips, Louise Lahive was selected from 100’s of artists for last years contemporary portraiture open, She’s since been awarded with a solo exhibition at Surface Gallery which will showcase her work characterised by the use of bold patterns and colours through oil paint, building on layers and adding small textures.

Lahive explores themes of ancestry and death with a personal focus which you can find out more about at the talks she will also be holding at the gallery on May 4th at 1200 and 1400.

May 5th 1500 - May 6th 0600 | Wigflex City Festival @ Various Locations

Stimulating talks and panel discussions alongside creative workshops and of course, innovative music features, make up this multidisciplinary display of music and art.

Hosted by local legendary party crew, Wigflex, the line up includes over 60 acts of both international and local talents, to name a few:

This is one of Notts biggest festivals, featuring an insane line up from jazz to house, techno to hardcore, and pretty much everything else. Don’t miss out on this one.

May 10th 1800 - 2300 | Detonate 20th Birthday Party @ The Market Square

With an extensive experience of hosting parties and events across Nottingham clubs, parks and community halls. Detonate invite you to celebrate their 20th - yes, 20th - birthday.

They’ve evolved from a local club night to one of the biggest festivals Notts have to offer. What they stand for has remained the same for the last two decades in that they aim to bring the most exciting music and artists to Notts.

The party will be take a look at the last 20 years of Detonate music, highlighting genres, seminal tracks and key moments in the history of both detonate and UK Bass music.

May 11th 1900 - 2345 | Acoustickle Spiegeltent: Jazz & Soul with Pete Beardsworth @ The Spiegeltent, Old Market Square

This majestic setting will take you into another world, immersive yourself in the intimacies of jazz, soul, blues, hip hop, RnB and neosoul.

These live acts include local jazz prodigy, Pete Beardsworth, among other acts coming from across the UK to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Acoustickle.

May 11th 2000 - 0000 | Tones: The Afro House Sound 002 @ Rough Trade 
Following their huge opening event, TONES return with their second installment of The Afro-House Sound, and this time they are bringing the UK's biggest Afro-House radio station Drums Radio to the City of Nottingham. 
Showcasing the biggest tracks of the Afro-House movement expect a night of good vibes, body shakers and foot stompers. Featuring sets from Mr Silk (Drums Radio), Tones resident DJs and a tasty addition of special guest Percussionists, Instrumentalists and Vocalists to increase the jams. 


May 18th 1830 | Slow Thai @ Rough Trade

From being raised on a council estate in Northampton to being one of the most up and coming British rappers, Slow Thai will be performing his debut album at Rough Trade on May 18th with an album signing to follow.

Slow Thai speaks candidly of his upbringing in his latest album ‘Nothing Great About Britain’, dismantling the British stereotypes, Brexit and a surge in nationalism.

Doors open at 1830 and he’s live on stage at 1930, be there or be square.

May 26th 1100 - 0400 | Dot to Dot Festival @ Various Venues

Showcasing the best established and emerging talent in rock, alternative and indie music from both Notts and around the globe, Dot to Dot festival returns this May for an all day event across the city.

Follow the guide across the various venues for a mini tour of the city, accompanied by fantastic music.

May 26th 2200 - 0400 | Movement Presents: Mark Knight @ Trade

With a career spanning more than a decade, grammy-nominated DJ/Producer Mark Knight will perform a 2 hour set of house music,

With support from Blakk, Identical, Jaytee, Matt Guy, Sam Bright and a special guest to be announced. This evening of acid house, house, disco, tech house and minimal techno is an ideal way to spend your bank holiday this weekend.

May 26th 2100 - 1500 | The I Club Presents: Mala DMZ @ The I Club

This event is a journey through bass hosted by MALA, boss of Deep Medi Musik and co-founder of DMZ, live in Notts.

Mala will be accompanied by Congi, Geiom and Dojo collective for an intimate evening of bass music.

May 31st 2200 - 0400 | Submerged @ The I Club

Bringing some of the best talent in DnB, this is Submerged 3rd event at The Irish Centre but as usual will bring you something a little different to their last event to keep things fresh.

Submerged have been up and running for a year now in Notts so this night of DnB and jungle is the best way to signify what they’ve been up too, and also a great end to the month.
